Fashion Week Interview With 'Basketball Wives LA' Star Angel Brinks

Who is Angel Brinks? You've seen this feisty Armenian beauty on season 4 of Basketball Wives LA. However, Angel is more than just a reality star...she is the owner and designer of Angel Brinks Fashion. She is a well established fashion designer who isn't new to the scene . You've seen her pieces on Lil Kim, Draya Michele, Ashanti, and many other celebrities. Styling On A Budget had a chance to catch up with Angel and find out more about her brand and style. Check out the interview below.

Styling On A Budget: When did you realize that you wanted to become a designer?

Angel Brinks: Designing was always my passion, it was all about timing. I knew when I was a little girl I wanted to design, when I started sewing with my grandmother, shredding jeans, and making skirts. Growing up, I was involved with the Performing Arts, so stage wear was always eye catching to me. I love glitz and glam type clothing!

SOAB: What statement or voice do you want your clothing line to represent?

AB: Confidence! I want all women to feel sexy and wear stylish clothing. I want them to walk into any event, and steal the spotlight. I want them to feel exclusive, and outshine everyone there!

SOAB: What is the inspiration behind your pieces?

AB: Since I grew up in the performing arts, stand out colors, materials, sequins, rhinestones, flashy materials, spark my interest. Unique, performance wear, red carpet, sexy, celebrity-like, one of a kind pieces inspire me.

SOAB: Where do you see your brand in the next five years?

AB: I would like to see my brand expanding to more Ballroom, special occasion dresses. I would also like to make clutch bags, open more stores around the world, and even have some pieces in department stores.

SOAB: If you weren't designing clothes, what would you be doing?

AB: That's a good question. I actually wouldn't have it any other way. I'm one of those people who go after everything they want and won't stop till they get it. I am a very driven, and ambitious female. I work extremely hard towards what I want so there wouldn't be a plan B with me.

SOAB: What other business ventures are you branching into?

AB: Right now, I'm juggling being a mommy of two, running a clothing line (full staffed), and being on a TV reality show. I have a lot on my plate right now, I couldn't imagine dividing my time with anything else right now.

SOAB: What's your most liked trend?

AB: It's hard to say because everything sells evenly. But if I had to get down to real numbers, I would say club dresses, and jeans. My style is very different and a lot of the time I hear my customers from around the world say that they love all my items and so happy to have found a clothing store with so many unique pieces! Sometimes they even say they're guilty of not wanting to share my line with others!

SOAB: What do you think is the worst trend in fashion (past or present)?

AB: I would have to say the 90's.

SOAB: What are some of your favorite brands?

AB: I love Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Christian Louboutin, Chanel, and Giuseppe Zanotti.

SOAB: Who is your fashion icon?

AB: I would have to say Jennifer Lopez!

SOAB: What advice would you give to young women who aspire to have a career in fashion?

AB: To always be creative. Fashion always evolves, so be creative, try to come up with different ways of doing things, have an open mind, and you don't always have to follow trends. Set them.

SOAB: What has been your greatest adversity before you were successful, and what did you do to overcome it?

AB: The most difficult time in my life was losing my ex-husband while I was towards the end of my pregnancy (with my son). I never, ever, thought I would get past it. It was such a horrific time in my life, being so young. Only thing that helped overcome it was time. I took all the negative feelings in my life and turned it into everything positive, and I prayed on having strength to go on.

SOAB: Did you attend New York Fashion Week, if so what shows did you enjoy?

AB: I won't be attending any fashion shows till February 2016.
